With further research, I found that UMass Amherst seems to have a higher computer science program ranking nationally, and a very impressive ranking at that. The student body at WPI is predominantly “Geeky”, but they are happy geeks who enjoy their culture. You need to visit both schools and talk to students and faculty. My son hated UMass Amherst and loved WPI, but you could have the opposite reaction depending on your personality and what you are looking for.</p>.
